My Country, My Home?

30.12.2019

In this land that I call home,
Girls like me don’t go to school.
Instead they grow up, in danger and afraid
Of what will happen to them one day.

In this country that I call my own,
Safety does not have a place.
Women cannot walk the streets alone,
Or dress the way they like anymore.

This land that I call my own,
Religion has overthrown.
People have lost sight of the truth,
All they do now is break and accuse.

This country that I call home,
Has no space for its own people.
Instead it weeds, prunes and hoes,
The people who have nowhere else to go.

In this land that I call home,
Peace may never walk again.
No one will be allowed to voice their thoughts,
Live their lives or worship their Gods.

In this country that I call my own,
Though I was allowed to go to school,
I have still grown up, worried and afraid
Of what will happen to us all one day.

  1. This is too real, most of these lines just feel so truthful. The last few lines honestly describe how most of us feel in the current situation.
