You may have seen me leaning on its trunk,
Tangled in its arm-like
roots,
Arms held aloft, and folded.
I am the Banyan’s child, born
again.
You may have heard me late at
night,
Pulling lightning across the
sky,
Thunder in hot pursuit.
I am the Rain’s child, born
again.
You may have felt me where
the mud road curves,
Forming the texture of its leaves
and bark,
Shimmering in the whites of
its petals.
I am the Nona’s child, born
again.
You may have covered your
eyes at my arrival,
I, who scorches and gives
life too,
Tossing its rays on the
ground below.
I am the Sun’s child, born
again.
You may have seen me on its
branches,
Its sweet juice mingling with
my hair,
While intoxicated creatures lie
at its feet.
I am the Marula’s child, born
again.
You may have heard me in the
wind,
Frolicking with both life and
death,
Rustling leaves as I go.
I am the Air’s child, born
again.
You may have felt me under
your feet,
Forming the mist drops on the
grass,
Resting, as grains of sand.
I am Nature’s child, born
again.
